MV Esperanza Star which serves the Iligan-Siquijor-Bohol-Cebu route caught fire early Sunday, June 18, 2023 off the coast of Panglao while approaching the Port of Tagbilaran in Bohol. As per Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the passenger vessel had 120 crew and passengers on board who were all rescued by TransAsia 19 and nearby fisherfolk. Initial investigation by the PCG revealed the fire started at around 3:55am near the engine room. Only the rear part of the ship suffered fire damage.
