In case you don’t know it yet, there is an archaeological site in the Municipality of Alubijid, Misamis Oriental. The University of the Philippines – School of Archaeology (UPSA) has been conducting excavation at the Calumat Open Site which is presumed to be the site of an old settlement. UPSA Associate Professor and Kagay-anon archeologist Dr. Leee Neri has been leading the work which has so far yielded several artifacts that date back to 3000 BC.

Based on the 2019 archaeological excavation conducted by the University of the Philippines – Archaeological Studies Program, the Calumat Open Site, which is situated on top of a hill, may have been occupied as early as the Neolithic period (ca. 3000 BC) until the coming of the European Recollect missionary in 1622. Meanwhile, Cagayan de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez visited the site which he plans to develop for tourism. Accordingly, he will fund the cementing of the road and the establishment of a stairway with railings to the site, which he will turn over to the Municipality of Alubijid once completed. The Municipal Government of Alubijid are reportedly closely coordinating with the lot owners for the purchase of the lot for development.
