RANDOM SHOTS: Live hogs being transported via aircon passenger vans, SUVs intercepted in MisOr

Wonder why lechon are expensive nowadays? The Misamis Oriental Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) recently intercepted in two separate occasions more than 200 live hogs from Zamboanga Peninsula loaded into air-conditioned vans, SUVs and other private vehicles at the animal quarantine checkpoint in Lugait town as well as in Poblacion, Naawan in an attempt to bypass the Lugait checkpoint. Transporters were trying to sneak the said animals into the province and Cagayan de Oro City despite a ban of live hogs coming from African Swine Fever-(ASF) affected areas. Authorities intensified the conduct of checkpoint after receiving information that private vehicles are now being used to transport hogs. Accordingly, personnel of the PVO have already disposed the seized hogs by culling. Reports also state this is already the fourth time that authorities foiled an attempt to sneak in live hogs to the province since January this year.
