The main suspect in the rape and murder of the 10-year old grade 3 student in Poblacion, Claveria, Misamis Oriental has admitted to the crime. Police state that 28-year old Ariel Bayud Limas voluntarily surrendered and admitted raping Sofhea Bual twice before killing her. The young student was reported missing last Wednesday, March 1, 2023 when she failed to return home after school.
According to a press release, the victim’s body was found at around 1:00am, March 4, 2023 along a creek at Sitio Banban, Barangay Ane-i in Claveria town during a joint search operation by the LGU of Claveria, PNP Claveria and the 58th Infantry Battalion. The victim’s body was found immersed into the water in a prone position and covered with a sack and a big stone.
The suspect who confessed to the crime narrated that at around 4:30pm of March 1, 2023, the victim was walking alone along the harvested corn plantation when the suspect hurriedly grabbed and then choked her until she passed out. He brought her underneath the bamboo tree and attempted to rape her. He then brought the victim to the area where there are wild ferns and rape her once, afterwhich he bumped her head into the rock and hid her in the creek covered with the sack and stones. The suspect voluntarily surrendered to police and is now detained at Claveria MPS for booking and proper disposition.
