Construction of the new Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail in Barangay Andales in the Municipality of Initao is now at 72 percent completion rate. This was revealed during the site inspection by Governor Peter “Sr. Pedro” Unabia last January 23, 2023. The new 5-hectare facility will have fifteen (15) buildings, watch towers, water reservoir, solar street lights, primary and secondary perimeter fence and can accommodate around 1,200 persons deprived of liberty (PDL).

The new Jail Facility is expected to address the overcrowding issues of the current jail facility at the Capitol Compound in Cagayan de Oro and will introduce more development programs for every PDL which includes the establishment of a Technical Skills Development Authority (TESDA) school, implementation of livelihood program and an opportunity to grow plants at its garden area.

Initao Mayor Gagay Acain and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Sangguniang Bayan also joined Gov. Unabia’s team during the inspection.
