Some sixteen (16) gated communities in Uptown Cagayan de Oro are pushing for the creation of Barangay Masterson. These villages are currently part of either of the four barangays namely: Balulang, Canitoan, Carmen and Lumbia. The group has organized the Federation of Uptown Villages Homeowners Association which will lobby for the creation of the new barangay named after the main road which traverses the said villages.
Based on an article at Philippine Daily Post, the 16 villages under the federation are: Golden Glow Village, Golden Glow Village North 1, Golden Glow Village North 2, The Courtyards, Bellevue Homes Subdivision, Vista Verde Village, Morning Mist Village, PhilamLife Village, Camella Homes, Hillsborough Pointe, Xavier Heights, Xavier Estates, San Agustin Valley Homes, Forest View Homes, West Woods and Pueblo Golf Estates.
Accordingly, the total population of these subdivisions has now reached 30,000 and the group is taking necessary steps to realize their proposal pursuant to Republic Act 9904, otherwise known as An Act Providing for a Magna Carta for Homeowners and Homeowners’ Associations, which states that a locality needs to have 5,000 inhabitants to qualify as a new barangay.
