The University of the Philippines’ Frances Caroline Acelo from Cagayan de Oro City is slowly making a name in the national football scene following her performance in the just concluded Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Women’s Cup where she was named Best Goalkeeper.

Early last month, the 23-year old goalkeeper who previously played for St. Mary’s School in Cagayan de Oro, was named Player of the Match after denying all of UST’s attacks in a 4-0 win.
Then just last week, Acelo blocked Inna Palacios’ penalty kick as the UP Fighting Maroons outlasted powerhouse Kaya FC-Iloilo in a pulsating penalty shootout, 5-4, to advance to the PFF Women’s Cup Finals. The young keeper’s heroic save against the veteran Palacios who is also the goalkeeper for the women’s national football team was instrumental for UP’s victory. Watch below.

UP eventually finished in 2nd Place after losing to eventual champion FEU Lady Tamaraws.

But Acelo was named the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper.

Acelo was a fixture in Cagayan de Oro’s Futsal Team and represented Northern Mindanao in Palarong Pambansa.
