PROJECT WATCH: Proposed “The Padel Zone” in Macasandig may become Cagayan de Oro’s largest racket sport facility

They just keep coming! Another major sports facility may soon rise in Cagayan de Oro. The Padel Zone, a large warehouse-style complex dedicated perhaps to padel, another growing racket sport, is being proposed in Tibasak, Macasandig. Based on conceptual renderings by ArcNest Creatives, the facility will feature 14 courts—potentially making it the largest in the city—along with spaces for food stalls, a refreshment area, and an elevated viewing platform where spectators can watch matches across all courts. While details such as the exact location and construction timeline have yet to be announced, the project is already something local sport enthusiasts can look forward to.

Padel is currently the world’s fastest-growing racket sport, combinng elements of tennis and squash. It is played in doubles on an enclosed, glass-and-mesh court that is about one-third the size of a tennis court. Using solid, stringless rackets and low-pressure balls, players can hit the ball off the walls, making it accessible, social, and fast-paced.
