Police in Cagayan de Oro City have launched a manhunt for a person of interest in the killing of a graduating university student whose body was found Thursday night, February 19, inside a boarding house along Burgos-Gomez Street in Barangay 7. Authorities identified the individual as a job order employee of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD), who last reported for duty on February 17 and has not been seen since, while initial investigation also revealed the person’s alleged link to illegal drugs.

The victim’s body was discovered after the boarding house caretaker reported a foul odor coming from Room 1. Police had to force their way into the locked room, where 23-year-old Bhea Yna Balus was found with a hack wound on her neck, even though she was reportedly renting Room 12. Authorities said Room 1 was rented by the person of interest. The body was already in the early stages of decomposition. Balus, a fourth-year BS Management Accounting student at Liceo de Cagayan University, was last seen by the caretaker on February 14. A damaged knife was also recovered from the room. SOURCE

Tributes have poured in for the victim, along with growing calls for justice.
