Progress continues at the Bukidnon Airport Development Project as government officials, led by Transportation Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, push to fast-track construction in preparation for the start of commercial operations, with turboprop flights expected to begin by December 2026 and jet services targeted to follow in early 2027. During a recent inspection, Secretary Lopez assessed the airport’s key facilities—including the passenger terminal building, runway extension, cargo building, and control tower—to ensure timelines are met, while contractors have been given until November 30, 2026 to complete these major components.

Lopez was joined by aviation and airport officials from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and Office for Transportation Security (OTS) to assess how airport operations can be further improved and accelerated.

Once operational, the airport is expected to improve connectivity across Mindanao and open more opportunities for tourism, trade, and local businesses in Bukidnon. Designed with modern and passenger-friendly features, the facility will accommodate around 425 travelers at a time.

The new airport is seen as a major boost to the province’s economy, bringing Bukidnon closer to becoming a more accessible gateway in Northern Mindanao.
