A large sunfish, considered as one of the largest bony fish species in the world, was found by fishermen off the coast of Lagonglong in Misamis Oriental. The rare find has sparked curiosity among the local villagers, as sunfish sightings are uncommon in the area. Known for their distinct flattened bodies, sunfish can grow to enormous sizes, with some weighing over 2,000 kilograms. Check out these videos by Ruthchelle Mahino Mandago and Moonyen Guiao Calo.

The sunfish is native to tropical and temperate waters around the world. Known for its unique appearance, it resembles a fish head without a tail, and its main body is flattened laterally – Wikipedia.

This is not the first time the fisherfolk in Lagonglong town have encountered a sunfish. Back in 2019, a dead sunfish was also found off the coast. See some photos below.
