A thirteen year-old Grade 8 student of Misamis Oriental Institute of Science and Technology (MOIST) in Balingasag town died while two others were injured when a tree fell on the motorela they were riding last Friday morning, May 24. The driver and 2 students were on their way to school when the incident happened. Bystanders helped in removing the tree and immediately rushed the victims to the nearby hospital but unfortunately, one of the victims was declared dead on arrival.
Reports revealed that the motorela had momentarily stopped near Baliwagan National High School to unload passengers. As soon as the passengers got off, a nearby tree suddenly toppled perhaps due to strong winds and rain, falling on top of the motorela. Local residents rushed to the aid of the victims. Watch below.
