Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista together with Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo led the groundbreaking ceremony of the expansion of Laguindingan Airport’s Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) today, February 4. Once completed, it will increase its pre-departure terminal capacity to 860 passengers daily from its current 500 passengers. With a budget allocation of P32.3 million, the project is estimated to be completed in August 2024.

Also present during the milestone event were Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia, former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson, Cagayan de Oro 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan, Misamis Oriental 2nd District Rep. Bambi Emano and 1st District Rep. Christian Unabia, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Usec. Bobby Lim, DOTr Asec. Jeorgette Aquino, Asec Leonel de Velez, Laguindingan Mayor Diosdado Obsioma, and other public and private sector partners.

The expansion will employ an innovative modular construction using pre-fabricated structural steel, which is cost-effective, allows for swift construction, and is sustainable.

Once completed, this will provide efficient and comfortable travel for passengers at the Northern Mindanao airports that serve the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, and Marawi, as well as the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, and Bukidnon.
