Have you imagined what Cagayan de Oro looked like in the 1940s? Here’s an aerial photo taken sometime before 1943 showing the town proper of then Cagayan de Misamis. Photo courtesy of National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
The exact date or year the photo was taken was not indicated but the photo was marked “copied 7/21/43” or copied on July 21, 1943. So the photo was taken before 1943.

I have labeled some of the notable structures which still exists today. The open space is the location of present-day City Central School, Pelaez Sports Complex and Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS).

Here’s a closer look and some observations:
- the belfry of St. Augustine Cathedral is still on the left side
- there’s already an oval at the present-day Pelaez Sports Center
